All About Mr. McDade

     Mr. McDade has been teaching elementary music in the Francis Howell Schools for seven years. His first three years with Francis Howell were part-time at John Weldon Elementary, and then he became a full-time teacher as he moved over to Independence Elementary when Independence opened  in the 1999-2000 school year. Before Mr. McDade came to Francis Howell he taught junior high and high school music for a year in Ohio. 

     Mr. McDade has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Education from The University of Akron in Akron, OH. His major instrument in college was Voice. In addition, Mr. McDade has certification from Webster University in all three levels of the Orff-Schulwerk approach to teaching music to young people. Mr. McDade is currently pursuing a Masters of Music Education degree from The University of Missouri-St. Louis. In addition, Mr. McDade has many years of experience in church music, most recently at Messiah Lutheran Church in St. Charles County.

     Mr. McDade teachers vocal music to all grade levels K-5 at Independence. In addition he directs our Singing Eagles Choir, our Fifth Gr. Recorder Ensemble, the annual 1st Gr. Things you might not know about Mr. McDade

  • he has sung with several fine choral groups, including seven years as a principal singer in the Bach Society of St. Louis

  • he also occasionally sings and plays his guitar at local venues, and sometimes plays jazz piano with the Gateway City Big Band 

  • he used to teach in a pre-school

  • he is married and he and his wife have two greyhound dogs - Racer & D'Anne

  • he loves birdwatching

  • he once met Mel Torme and got his autograph, but he doesn't know where the autograph is now

  • he is a HUGE St. Louis Cardinals fan, so if you have any extra tickets, let him know!
